I believe that health care is a right, not a privilege. Iowans cannot wait for a solution from Washington D.C.
As your representative in Des Moines, I will work to:
* Expand and promote health insurance pools to lower costs;
* Ensure every child in Iowa has health insurance;
* Work to lower the costs of prescription drugs for all Iowans;
* Allow patients to see the doctor of their choice; and
* Require that new mothers get at least one month of paid maternity leave.
Teaching and working for our schools is a family tradition for me and our education will always be a top priority. All children should have the best education - a proud tradition in Iowa.
As your representative in Des Moines, I will work to:
* Make sure our schools are meeting the needs all students;
* Use the Iowa Communications Network to help us spend more wisely by sharing scarce resources — like teachers and courses;
* Hold down the costs of both community colleges and state and private universities;
* Continue to make early learning opportunities available to all children; and
* Find new way to get parents involved in schools.
As an attorney for workers, I work every day so that all Iowans can achieve the goal of a middle class life. State government must also work to create better job opportunities for all Iowans and not stand in the way of job creation.
As your representative in Des Moines, I will work to:
* Work to grow Iowa’s agriculture and renewable energy industries;
* Help find solutions for workers to telecommute;
* Hold employers accountable to treat workers with dignity and provide a living wage; and
* Partner community colleges with business leaders to ensure that skills training matches the needs of Iowa business.
