Willems Secures Victory in Federal Court for Iowa Workers

Willems has spent his career fighting for Iowa workers, and will strengthen worker protections and improve enforcement as Iowa's next attorney general

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa — Nate Willems, the Democratic candidate for Iowa Attorney General, won a federal court ruling last week on behalf of Iowa workers fighting for their full pension credit.

Willems represented United Food and Commercial Workers International Union – Local 431, after their employer tried to deny them the pension credit they are owed. Willems once again proved he can deliver wins for working people in Iowa: the federal judge ruled in favor of the union's arguments and rejected the employer's legal maneuvers.

"This ruling is a victory for Iowans who have worked hard putting food on the table for Iowa families, including their own, and deserve the retirement benefits they were promised," said Nate Willems. "I've spent my career making sure corporate bad actors live up to the agreements they sign, and that's exactly what this ruling does. We need an attorney general who believes in standing up for workers, fighting for Iowans, and holding bad corporate actors accountable when they try to cheat them out of what they're owed."

Nate Willems has represented tens of thousands of Iowa workers, including securing $15 million for hospital and clinic workers and recovering $1.7 million in back pay for custodians. He has also represented law enforcement officers across the state, including securing the largest collectively bargained wage increase in Iowa history for police officers in Carter Lake who had been denied pay increases for years.
