Willems Raises Nearly $2 Million On Latest Report

Fundraising success brings Willems' total raise to $3.2 million for the campaign, shattering previous Democratic attorney general fundraising records.

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa — Nate Willems, the Democratic nominee for Iowa Attorney General, will report nearly $2 million raised in the most recent reporting period and $2.67 million in the bank for his campaign to defeat Brenna Bird.

The fundraising report, which is due on Monday, includes all contributions and expenditures from May 27th through July 14th. The campaign will report raising $1,945,794.60 during the period thanks to support from nearly 1,600 donors. With more than 83 percent of contributions at $100 or less, and 90% from in-state, Willems continues to build a strong network of grassroots supporters across Iowa.

"Thousands of Iowans have stepped up to support our campaign because they believe it's time for an attorney general who will fight for them," said Nate Willems. "As a lawyer, I show up everyday for people who need someone in their corner and willing to take on powerful interests who break the law or steal from them. That's the kind of leadership we need from our attorney general, and it's why I'm in this race."

Willems, a labor lawyer from Mount Vernon, has spent two decades representing Iowa workers — recovering stolen wages, negotiating contracts, and taking on employers who cheated their employees. As a lawyer, he has secured $15 million for 11,000 hospital and clinic workers, recovered $1.7 million in back pay for a group of custodians, and secured the largest collectively bargained wage increase for local police officers.

With $3.2 million raised since joining the race, Willems has eclipsed previous fundraising totals for Democratic nominees for the office. During the entire 2022 election cycle, former Democratic Attorney General Tom Miller raised $1,996,992.
